Biography...

Erica.jpgErica Shoulders-Royster began her career in education as a 1998 Teach For America Eastern North Carolina corps member. She served as a fourth grade teacher at Pinkston Street Elementary School in Vance County. Erica realized her passion for educational equality and joined Teach For America staff as a Program Director. In this role, Erica conducted more than 200 formal classroom observations in 30 different schools throughout an academic year. Erica earned her Masters in School Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill in May 2008.

In 2010, Erica was selected to participate in Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA) because of her strong desire and passion to help children in the Northeast achieve academically. As a NELA Fellow, Erica is driven to see that “all children obtain an excellent education,” despite their educational or financial background, race or sex. When not learning under her mentor, NELA Coach or NELA Instructors, Erica serves as Board Chair of Henderson Collegiate School in Vance County, Assistant Principal at Franklinton High School, and is busy enjoying her husband and raising their family of five children. She strives to live by the Margaret Mead quote "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
